Independence Day is celebrated in the US on 4th of July every year. It is a federal holiday in the country. On this day, the Continental Congress announced that American colonies, that were 13 in number, can declare themselves a separate nation. The colonies were not to be regarded as a part of British Empire any more. In actual, this announcement was made on the 2nd of July but the day is celebrated on the 4th.

There are many rituals that are associated with this day. Fireworks are organized every year around the country and people enjoy this display of fireworks either on the screen of their TVs or live. Other than that, people gather with their friends and family and have barbecues. Carnivals are also organized around the country o=in which people participate in large numbers.
