October Events 2018

In the Julian and the Gregorian calendar October is the tenth month of the calendar year whereas in the Roman calendar it was the eighth month of the year before Numa the king added the month of January and February to the calendar year. The month originally had 31 days but king Numa changed them to 29 days. Later two days were added by Julius Caesar making the month again of 31 days.  In the Gregorian calendar that we use today, the month of October has 31 days. As it was the eighth month in the old Roman calendar, it was named after the Latin word ‘ôctō’ meaning eight. The month of October is linked to the autumn season in the northern hemisphere and spring season in the southern hemisphere. This is the month when the leaves change their color in the northern hemisphere; birds fly to the southern hemisphere to protect themselves from the cold. The first frost takes place in this month. A different story takes place in the southern hemisphere. It is the month of light and color, when flowers bloom. Many harvests like apples take place in the month of October. Therefore we could say that the month of October in the south is same as the month of April in the north. The month of October is symbolized by;
